Can anyone receive PrEP treatment through Circle Medical?

Yes, anyone who is 18+ and permanently resides in a state that we service can seek care through our practice. Your provider will determine whether treatment is appropriate based on your medical history, lab results, risk factors, and other health information.

What states do you operate in?

How do I know if PrEP is right for me?

We recommend booking a video appointment to speak with one of our experienced clinicians to get your questions answered. All of our clinicians are primary care practitioners, which means that they are experienced in providing care beyond prescribing PrEP. Your clinician will be able to discuss your treatment options with you and answer any questions you may have, about PrEP or about any other health topic you may want to discuss in a safe environment.

How does lab testing work?

Your provider will be able to place a lab order to a lab near you to get bloodwork completed. Your results will be uploaded automatically to the app, where you can view and download them at any time.

What type of provider am I seeing through Circle Medical?

Our providers are primary care providers (MD's, DO's, NP's, and PA's) who have experience in providing gender-affirming care and behavioral health care. They are allies and proud members of the LGBTQIA+ community. You can review each available provider's profile while choosing an appointment time.

Do I need to book my appointment with a doctor (MD or DO), or can I book my appointment with any provider (PA-C, NP, etc)?

You do not need to book your appointment with a doctor. You can book your appointment with any provider that we have available. Our providers all work closely together to make sure that we are providing the same excellent standard of care to all patients regardless of which provider you book your appointment with. The type of provider you book with will not limit the type of treatment or medications that you are able to be prescribed.

How long are the appointments?

The first intake appointment is 30 minutes. Follow-up appointments, if you have them, are 15 minutes each.

What do I need to do to prepare for my first appointment?

After booking your first appointment, download the app and make sure that you are able to sign in. Confirm your appointment start time in the app (all times are in your phone's local time). No other actions are needed. You will receive an in-app chat message 1-2 minutes before your appointment start time with the link to join your video appointment.

What happens after I am prescribed?

After you are prescribed medications, we will coordinate sending these prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy. We may have a mail-order prescription delivery service available; please ask your provider about this. We will contact you via the in-app chat regarding ongoing refills and follow-up appointments. Your specific follow-up appointment cadence will be determined by your provider. If you have questions at any time, please feel free to chat with your provider and care team via our secure app.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans. Different providers accept different insurance, so we’ll help you find a provider who accepts yours. Check your insurance to confirm your plan and get a free estimate of your out-of-pocket costs. You can also do this when you book an appointment.

How much will my appointment cost if I’m using insurance?

Visits cost $35 on average with insurance. We will provide a cost estimate at booking, although there are cases where insurance will not provide real-time benefit information. Your final out-of-pocket cost is determined after we submit a claim to your insurance, and is based on the details of your insurance plan. Book an appointment and enter your insurance information to get an estimate before you confirm. For the most accurate estimate, call the number on the back of your insurance card.

How does billing work?

If you choose to self-pay, you will be sent an invoice shortly after your provider finalizes your appointment summary (typically within two days). Any balances that are not paid within 48 hours of invoice notice will be charged to your default payment method on file. If you choose to bill your appointment to insurance, it typically takes 4-6 weeks for your insurance to process your claim and return your out-of-pocket cost, including any applicable deductibles, co-pays, and/or coinsurance. The amount on the invoice should reflect the balance that is owed after your insurance has paid its share. You will be sent an invoice letting you know of an upcoming charge for your out-of-pocket cost. Any balances that are not paid within 48 hours of invoice notice will be charged to your default payment method on file.

What other costs are part of PrEP care?

Appointment pricing does not include the cost of medication at the pharmacy or any lab work. We recommend checking for GoodRx coupons to help lower pharmacy costs.

What is PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)?

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a highly effective medication for reducing the risk of HIV transmission in individuals at increased risk. When taken consistently, PrEP can lower the risk of acquiring HIV through sexual contact by approximately 99% and through injection drug use by at least 74%. It is recommended for individuals who have an HIV-positive partner, engage in high risk sexual activity with multiple partners, have a recent history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), or share injection drug equipment. A healthcare provider can assess your risk and determine if PrEP is right for you.
